Commissioner Thompson asks board to consider body cameras for sheriff's deputies

During the Dec. 2 meeting Pamela Tyler Thompson urged the board to consider body-worn cameras for the Alamance County Sheriff’s Department. Thompson said she recently attended a multi-county enforcement presentation and that law enforcement partners had supplied figures showing potential benefits. She asked staff (Heidi) and the chair to add the item to a future agenda so the board may consider costs and implementation.
Thompson told the board that body cameras could ‘‘save us tremendously in lawsuits’’ and said she expects staff to present cost figures and options at a later meeting. No formal motion was made at the Dec. 2 meeting; Thompson requested the item be scheduled for further discussion.
The board did not take immediate action on the request; Thompson asked that the chair and county staff include the item on a future agenda for a fuller, documented discussion.
