Alamance County swears in officials; John Paisley elected chair

The Alamance County Board of Commissioners swore in newly elected and appointed officials during its Dec. 2 meeting, elected John Paisley as the board chair and chose Steve Carter as vice chair.
Outgoing commissioner William Thomas Lashley received a plaque recognizing his service from Dec. 7, 2020, to Dec. 2, 2024. Lashley said he was ‘‘very honored that the citizens of Alamance County selected me to do their business on their behalf’’ and thanked staff and fellow officials for their support.
A judge administered the oath of office to John Paisley, Ed Priola and Kelly Allen as county commissioners; each answered ‘‘I do’’ when asked to uphold the U.S. and North Carolina constitutions. Other county officers sworn in included Pamela Tyler Thompson, David Michael Spruill (Alamance County Soil and Water Conservation District supervisor) and David Barber (register of deeds).
Following the swearing, the board nominated candidates for chair. After nominations, the board voted to elect John Paisley as chair by voice vote; the chair announced ‘‘4 yeses, 1 no.’’ Steve Carter was later elected vice chair by voice vote. Board leadership is selected annually at the December meeting, and the new leadership will preside over the coming year’s agendas and committee assignments.
The swearing-in and leadership votes set the board’s organizational structure as commissioners begin their new terms and county officials take on their assigned roles.
