New Brentwood council sworn in; Pearson elected vice mayor after roll-call votes

At the close of its Dec. 10 meeting the Brentwood City Council swore in newly elected officials and selected a vice mayor for the two-year term.
Amanda McVey, the city clerk, administered oaths of office to Susanna Meyer as mayor and to council members Faye Maloney (sworn remotely) and Jovita Mendoza. Each was sworn to uphold the constitutions of the United States and the state of California before taking their seats for the 2024—2026 term.
Mayor Meyer then opened the council item to elect a vice mayor, noting the council—s procedural rules require a simple majority. The mayor recommended Council Member Jovita Mendoza as vice mayor; that nomination failed on a roll-call vote. Council Member Orlemans then moved to elect Council Member Patanisha Pearson to the vice mayor position; the motion passed by the required majority and Pearson was sworn in as vice mayor for a two-year term.
The council moved immediately into organizational items and routine business following the swearing-in. Members and members of the public offered congratulations to the incoming officials and thanked outgoing Mayor Joel Bryant for 14 years of service.
