He described annual payments of about $328,999 and a total commitment of $1,664,995 over five years, with an individual device cost of roughly $277.50 including taxes.
Commissioners asked about warranty terms, in‑house repair capacity and potential technology lock‑in as device types evolve. Frye said schools would handle device stewardship at the school level, require a signed acknowledgement of device responsibilities, and that parts compatibility and technician capacity would keep maintenance costs down. He added that staff will continue to evaluate new technologies and consider iPads for some grades.
The board approved the resolution by voice vote. The invoices will be paid by the Alamance‑Burlington School System from existing county appropriations, and the resolution binds the county to fund the lease on an annual basis for the next five years.
