Sheriff Gets Approval to Hire 10 More Deputies Under Incentive Program; Board Agrees Unanimously

Alamance County’s sheriff updated the commissioners on recruitment and asked permission to hire an additional ten deputies under the established hiring‑bonus contract. The sheriff said the office received 93 applications since July 1; after background screening many applicants were rejected but 12 conditional offers were in process and the department expected to swear in multiple new hires across several dates.
Commissioners who had previously authorized the initial hiring bonus reiterated support and moved to approve another round of ten hires, to be funded from lap‑salary allocations identified in the sheriff’s personnel budget. The motion passed unanimously.
The sheriff said several of the new hires will be deployable to road and detention assignments and will reduce near‑term training burdens because recruits are coming from other agencies and possess relevant certifications.
