The Horry County Board of Education approved a temporary delegation allowing the superintendent (and, beginning next week, the interim superintendent) to approve contracts during the summer months, with any actions brought back to the board for ratification on Aug. 12.
The change was presented to allow the district to continue hiring and onboarding work while the board meets less frequently over the summer. Board members moved and seconded the item and the motion passed by unanimous voice vote.
The board directed staff to ensure a routine ratification agenda in August and to follow established procurement and reporting practices for all summer approvals.
Next steps: contracts approved under this delegation will be presented to the board for ratification at the August meeting, and staff will maintain procurement records consistent with board policy.
