Facilities staff report progress on road, auditorium and new-school construction; hazardous-abatement work planned at old Soxty Elementary

Facilities staff delivered a multi-project update to trustees on Sept. 23 covering roadway work, auditorium renovations, new-school construction and an upcoming hazardous-abatement and demolition project.
An informational project clip stated that major drainage installation is complete on Bridal School Loop Road with curb, gutter and base-course work underway and final paving and striping expected in November. For Ayer High School, staff said floor prep, painting, tile, lighting and seating work are in progress and seat deliveries are expected in November.
On the Myrtle Beach auditorium, staff reported stanchions and seats are arriving and installation is underway. "When complete, the auditorium will have a total of 1,891 seats, including 16 accessible spots," the presentation stated, and staff projected completion in October.
Vertical construction is progressing at the new elementary on the Ronald McNair site: Burch described roof joists, decking, HVAC, plumbing, electrical and fire-sprinkler rough-in work, with classroom wings taking shape. Similar construction progress was reported for the Carolina Forest Boulevard elementary, and aerial photos show the fundamentals of the layouts.
Regarding the old Soxty Elementary School, Burch said the district is working with an environmental engineer to design a hazardous-material abatement plan. He estimated abatement would take about 6–8 weeks with demolition requiring another roughly six weeks, and said contractors are currently preparing pricing for both tasks. "We feel like we'll get started here in the next 30 days or so with that process," Burch said.
Trustees asked whether projects are on schedule. Burch replied that most projects are on track; seating deliveries caused some Myrtle Beach delays but installations have commenced and timelines have been adjusted accordingly.
Next steps: staff will continue project oversight and report back as major phases approach completion; the Soxty abatement/demolition scope will proceed after final pricing and confirmation with the environmental consultant.
