Commissioners confirm amended consent agenda, make appointments and approve radio financing resolution

Alamance County commissioners approved several consent and administrative items on Aug. 5, including appointments to a county tourism board and a financing resolution to replace emergency radios.
The board voted to approve the consent agenda as amended; staff noted an addendum to a municipal engineering contract would be attached to the minutes and uploaded. Commissioners then approved appointments to the county Tourism Development Authority, accepting staff recommendations to appoint Stephanie Williams (Alamance Chamber) and Anna Rooney (Hand Pottery/Burlington) to available seats.
On public-safety technology, staff presented a reimbursement resolution to finance an emergency radio replacement project that had been included in the budget. Commissioners approved the resolution and agreed to seek installment financing and reimburse themselves from the proceeds of that financing; staff said the project would keep county radios compatible with regional communications upgrades.
The county manager reported the State Board of Elections had visited the county on July 19 to assess the elections facility and staffing; the manager said the county "passed with flying colors."
On procedural business, the county attorney asked the board to move into closed session under North Carolina General Statutes for (1) personnel matters and consideration of qualifications, competence and fitness of prospective public employees; (2) negotiations and instruction for potential employment contracts and the potential purchase of specific parcels (parcel numbers were read into the record); and (3) attorney‑client privileged legal consultations concerning ongoing cases. The board approved the closed‑session requests.
Next steps: Staff will add the engineering contract addendum to the public record, begin installment‑financing steps for the radio project and follow the attorney's guidance for the closed‑session items.
