Alamance Commissioners Appoint Interim Tax Collector, Order 2024-25 Tax Collection

The Alamance County Board of Commissioners moved on procedural tax items on Aug. 19 after staff notified the board the county's tax administrator had resigned.
County staff asked the board to accept a $50,000 statutory bond and appoint Miss Miller as the county's tax collector so the tax-collection process that begins Sept. 1 can proceed on schedule. County staff cited General Statute GS 105-349 regarding the appointment of a tax collector and said the bond received matches the amount previously held for the former tax collector.
A motion to accept Miss Miller's bond and appoint her as interim tax collector carried by voice vote. The board also approved the formal order of collection for tax year 2024-25, which allows the county to begin tax collection on Sept. 1, and approved charge-offs of 2014 property taxes as permitted under GS 105-378(a.
County staff said the appointment is limited to the tax-collection role (statutorily required) and does not appoint Miss Miller as tax administrator (a separate, nonstatutory position). No roll-call vote with named commissioners was recorded in the transcript for these items; the board approved the motions by voice vote.
