Chief academic officer Lee James walked the board through the R2 policy requirements, assessment framework (KRA, MAP, I-Ready and SC Ready), and multi-year performance charts showing increases in the percentage of students scoring in the 'meets' or 'exceeds' categories across grade bands. James noted that third-grade numeracy performance has risen over baseline and highlighted improvements in middle- and high-school assessments, while explaining differences in grading scales between EOC A–F scoring and standards-based proficiency measures.
On teacher supports, James proposed providing one professional development day to each teacher participating in LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) training to reduce out-of-class responsibilities and support collaboration. The district said the recurring cost would be $195,293.75 and recommended funding the leave day from the general fund undesignated balance. The board moved and approved the LETRS leave-day recommendation and accepted the R7 (college and career readiness) monitoring compliance later in the meeting.
