Board signs bridge plans, approves right-of-way payments and finalizes surplus-auction winners

The Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors on Oct. 21 approved multiple infrastructure and surplus-property actions.

Bridge projects: County engineering staff presented final plans for a PPCB bridge on B28 over the Little Wapsi (reported as 213 feet, 10 inches by 3 feet, 6 inches) and requested supervisor signatures for a February letting; the board authorized signatures and moved the plans forward. The board also approved right-of-way contracts and easements for bridge replacement work with Bernard and Eileen Eichenberger (parcel payments described at $732.07 and $5,607.09 for two parcels) and with Lester and Anne Weaver (payments of $998.30 and $2,925.67 for two parcels). Those agreements were approved by roll call.

Payouts and vouchers: Staff reported the Iowa DOT completed a materials audit for the Chickasaw County DCC Overlay Project and the county's remaining payment from Farm-to-Market funds is about $30,000; the board approved final voucher signature to close out the project.

Surplus auction: The clerk opened 14 sealed bids for surplus home-office furniture and read high bids for individual items after a recess. The board confirmed awarding items to highest bidders, resolved a tie on an item, and instructed staff to notify buyers and arrange pickup; board also discussed donating or offering leftover items free-to-take if not claimed.

Next steps: staff to sign and file bridge documents for the letting, issue right-of-way payments, complete overlay finalization, and notify auction winners with pickup instructions.
