An unidentified county speaker told the board the resolution directs required next steps: “setting the date for the consultation meeting out of the whole plan, directing notice of the consultation that need to be mailed to all effective tax entities,” and preparing a copy of the plan for public inspection in the auditor’s office. The board carried the motion by roll call.
Board members discussed outreach and community messaging. One supervisor urged the county to prepare a concise FAQ and handout for consultation meetings to tamp down misinformation, noting that opponents often repeat inaccuracies about taxes and scope. County staff said they would prepare a shorter, plain-language summary to accompany the 18‑page plan packet.
The resolution also directs the county assessor (or delegate) to conduct consultations and to respond to recommendations before the board sets a formal public hearing. The board chair confirmed the consultation process will include mailings to cities and other affected taxing entities and that supervisors representing affected districts would be invited to attend consultation meetings in their areas.
The board’s action does not authorize any specific projects or expenditures under the plan; it authorizes the procedural steps required under state law to solicit consultation and to schedule the public hearing on Dec. 9.
Next steps: county staff will distribute consultation notices, prepare outreach materials for the Oct. 15 meetings, and file the plan for public inspection as required by the resolution.
