Chickasaw County approves school-resource-officer MOU with Nashville Plainfield district

The Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors voted Sept. 3 to authorize the chair to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Nashville Plainfield School District to provide school-resource-officer (SRO) services on a flexible, shared basis.
Sheriff Ryan Schauffer presented the proposed MOU and told the board the district had approved the agreement locally and would reimburse the sheriff’s office $3,000 annually under the arrangement he proposed. Schauffer said the county will not be able to dedicate a single officer to every district but will use deputies flexibly to increase presence in schools, attend events and interact with students and faculty.
Supervisors asked about how the agreement would be filed with the state, how neighboring counties handle SRO reimbursements and whether the initial reimbursement figure was sufficient. Board members noted Bremer County’s approach, where some districts pay higher per-district amounts for dedicated officers, but the sheriff’s office said the MOU is intended as a modest, flexible starting point and will be reviewed annually.
The board approved the motion and recorded a roll call with all members voting 'aye.'
