Benton County public‑health update: COVID activity low but measles cases prompt statewide investigations

Holland said test positivity has risen to about 5 percent (from roughly 4 percent in April) and noted wastewater surveillance shows increases at about a quarter of monitored sites, with sustained increases at roughly 10 percent of sites — mostly in northwest Oregon. She said overall hospitalizations remain low statewide thanks to immunity from vaccination and prior infection, but cautioned that infections and severe cases still occur.
Holland reported three confirmed measles cases in Oregon discovered over the prior days: two people from the same household in Clackamas County and a third case in Marion County. Exposure notifications were being investigated, including two medical facilities in the Portland area. Benton County is not listed as an exposure site at this time, but public‑health teams are monitoring and ready to respond. Holland reiterated standard precautions (stay home when sick, good respiratory hygiene) and noted a tailored 2024 seasonal COVID vaccine is expected this fall.
