Benton County proclaims September 2024 National Suicide Prevention Month

The Benton County Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted Proclamation P2024-017 declaring September 2024 National Suicide Prevention Month. County Health Services staffer Eric Bolling presented the proclamation, saying suicide is a “devastating tragedy” and noting elevated risks among veterans, residents in rural areas, gender minorities, middle‑aged adults, people of color and tribal populations.
Bolling said the national theme, “changing the narrative on suicide,” aligns with local efforts to promote help-seeking and connect people to behavioral health services. The proclamation urges residents, relatives, providers and community members to recognize signs of crisis and to guide people in need to appropriate services.
Commissioner Pat Malone moved to adopt the proclamation; the motion was seconded and the board indicated support by voice vote. The proclamation was adopted and signed by the board.
