Pocomoke City council approves minutes, bill list and ethics commission appointments; discusses permits and leases

Pocomoke City’s mayor and council handled several routine administrative matters Monday night, including approval of meeting minutes and the current bill list, confirmation of five ethics commission nominees and discussions about permit procedures and a train‑club lease.

Members approved the minutes from the previous meeting and the bill list by voice vote. During discussion council members identified and corrected a name in the minutes (Betty Walston to Betty Sawyer).

The mayor nominated five people to an ethics commission by district: Dr. Willie Brown for District 1, Nikkita Mills for District 2, Timothy Taylor for District 3, Nola Teller for District 4 and Jen Lindell for District 5. A council motion to approve the five nominees was seconded and approved by voice vote; the mayor said the new commissioners would be sworn in at the next meeting.

Council also discussed the process for special one‑day alcohol permits after the county moved to an online submission process. Members debated whether to adopt the county form, create an internal form or develop an electronic workflow through an upcoming Tyler technology system; council emphasized hosts retain responsibility to notify city staff. Two event requests were noted and staff was asked to supply dates and documentation.

On a separate agenda item, a train‑club representative asked the council to reapprove a lease for a seasonal model train display that draws visitors to the Discovery Center. Councilmembers said lease specifics should be worked out in a work session with staff (city clerk Melinda Stafford) and did not vote on the lease that night. The mayor called a brief recess later in the meeting.
