The Pocomoke City mayor and council voted Monday to donate $600 to the Worcester County Developmental Center (WCDC) to support a planned quarter-auction fundraiser and the purchase of iPads for WCDC clients.
Stephanie, identified in the meeting as WCDC’s executive director, told the council WCDC serves about 104 adults with developmental disabilities and recently opened a presence in Pocomoke. She said the organization hopes to raise roughly $10,000 at a Sept. 17 quarter-auction; the devices will help clients attend medical appointments and provide documentation to Medicaid. Stephanie provided a vendor quote for mobile service from Verizon Wireless at $5.99 per device per month and estimated $600 would cover initial service costs for the devices discussed.
Council members suggested outreach to the Chamber of Commerce and asked staff to post donation and event information on the city’s social channels. A councilmember moved to donate $600 to WCDC for the iPad effort; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
The donation will be processed by city staff; WCDC representatives invited council members to the Sept. 17 fundraiser.
