At a glance: key motions and votes from the Oct. 14 McDowell County Board meeting

Several procedural matters were decided at the Oct. 14 meeting:

• Agenda approval: The board approved the meeting agenda by acclamation (motion by Ms. Pupot; second by Ms. Helms). The chair called the motion carried unanimously.

• NC School Board Association delegates: The board selected Mr. Abernathy, Mr. Shuford, Ms. Helms and Mr. Suttles as delegates and Mr. Frank as alternate for the association’s November conference. The motion was made by Mr. Shuford and seconded by Mr. Abernathy; the board approved the selection by acclamation.

• Tabling facility-usage request: After debate about fee waivers and cost recovery, a motion to table the facility-usage request until next month passed. The executive team will return with a recommendation on facilities and a cost-recovery plan before the board votes.

• Closed session: The board moved into closed session under N.C. Gen. Stat. § 143-318.11 for privileged student and personnel information (motion by Mr. Shuford; second by Ms. Pupot). The board entered closed session at 8:25 p.m.
