Placerville recreation commission votes to move regular meetings to Monday

The Placerville Recreation & Parks Commission voted unanimously to move its regular monthly meeting from the third Wednesday to the third Monday, a change commissioners said will improve scheduling consistency for staff and the public.

Commissioners discussed how holidays that fall on the proposed Monday dates should be handled and asked staff to develop contingency language. During deliberations, several commissioners said keeping meetings on the same week of the month but on Monday would make long‑range calendar planning easier for staff and community groups who must coordinate event logistics.

Mister Dennis, the department staff member who presented the draft 2025–2026 calendar, said the recommendation responds to internal staffing changes and aims to allow more proactive scheduling of major agenda items, such as park renovations and fee changes. He told the commission staff will return to City Council with the formal recommendation once the commission finalizes its direction.

The commission’s motion to change the meeting day was moved and seconded and passed by voice vote with no opposition. Commissioners agreed the next step is for staff to draft specific procedures for when a Monday meeting would fall on a holiday and to present those procedures to the commission before forwarding the calendar to City Council.

The commission did not adopt the calendar as city policy at that meeting; the change will be included in the packet sent to City Council for final consideration.
