Gardena rolls out 'Bolt' on‑demand microtransit; council grants easement for GTrans EV chargers

GTrans introduced Bolt, an on‑demand shared‑ride service for Gardena that the agency said began public operations on Dec. 9. Melissa, the program manager leading the project, told the City Council the service is available inside Gardena city limits and for registered paratransit customers into portions of Hawthorne and nearby unincorporated Los Angeles areas.
"Bolt is Gardena's new on demand shared ride service," Melissa said, adding that riders can book by app, online or by calling dispatch at (310) 965‑8848. Fares are set at $2 per person for the public and 75¢ for eligible paratransit riders; current operating hours are Monday–Friday 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Councilmembers asked about outreach and service evaluation. Melissa said staff have marketed Bolt at recent city events, are distributing flyers and social media posts, and will monitor ridership, mileage and other KPIs during the first year to assess possible expansion (including potential Sunday service).
Separately, the council approved granting an easement and right of way to Southern California Edison under SCE's Charge Ready Transport program to bring sufficient electrical service to the GTrans yard and support the installation of seven vehicle chargers at the GTrans facility on Southwestern Avenue. City staff said the SCE infrastructure work is provided at low or no cost under the program and that GTrans has set aside local, state and federal funds to build the chargers; there was no general fund impact.
What’s next: GTrans will monitor Bolt’s performance through its new software analytics and report back on ridership and service metrics; city staff will finalize construction of the EV chargers once SCE completes the utility‑side work.
