Council approves change order to buy pump and motor for Bailey Well

Junction City Council on Aug. 27 unanimously approved a change order to buy and install a pump and motor for the Bailey Well, authorizing the public works director to sign purchase documents.
Public works staff told the council the original drilling bid did not include the pump and motor because vendors and specifications were not finalized at bid time. "When they did their bid to drill well, they didn't include the pump and motor because they didn't know exactly what we needed to order at the time," staff said. The supplemental bid to buy and install the pump and motor is $42,900; the motion passed authorizing the purchase in an amount not to exceed $43,900.
Councilors asked whether power is available at the site and when installation could occur. Staff said they expect power will be available sooner than originally anticipated and that the pump and motor can be purchased and installed quickly once approved. Council also discussed the procurement history: staff reported that only two drillers bid the original well-drilling work, and this purchase is a change order to that contract.
Funding for the purchase was identified as coming from the water fund for that well; staff said the amount fits the existing budget line for water pump work. The motion to approve the purchase was made by "councilor Weishman" and seconded by councilor Leach; council recorded the vote as unanimous.
The council moved on after the vote; staff said the vendor can order the pump immediately and that installation should follow without long delay.
