Council approves two playground replacements and contingency to meet safety standards

Superintendent presented the Bailey Park playground purchase as the first of two related AISs tied to the new Bailey Park water production well project. Because initial AIS estimates lacked final shipping and handling figures, staff added a 20% contingency; the motion authorized the Bailey Park purchase not to exceed approximately $59,869.20 (the transcript also contains a very similar figure of $59,875.20). Council approved the purchase and authorized the public works superintendent to sign the necessary documents.
For Gondama Park, staff said the existing structure is the town's oldest and that replacing it will likely require additional concrete/site work because current fall protection rules require a larger protective circumference than the current footprint allows. Council authorized the Gondama Park purchase not to exceed $26,737.03 and authorized the superintendent to sign; staff indicated both purchases would be paid from the FY2024–25 parks capital budget.
Councilors expressed support for the investments, noting the parks are well used and that timely procurement is needed because of vendor lead times.
