Residents urge Junction City to install streetlight at subdivision entrance citing safety concerns

During the public‑comment period, Jackie Pendergrass and Chris Miles spoke on behalf of the Preserve at Junction City HOA to request a streetlight at the subdivision entrance on Fifteenth Street to improve nighttime visibility and reduce crash risk. They said traffic has increased with the completion of the second phase and nearby Lennar development, and that the intersection is "really, really dark." Miles said his conversations with Lane County indicated the county would not make improvements on that road and suggested the city consider options.
Councilors and staff acknowledged the safety concern and said coordination with Lane County would be necessary because Oakley is a county road. Public works staff said the city has paid for streetlights in other locations when county policy precludes county installation, but any installation would carry ongoing maintenance and power costs.
Council asked staff to follow up with Lane County and to estimate the cost of an installed pole and ongoing fee, and to report back with options for whether the city or developer (or a combination) would bear the cost.
