Commissioners approve two rezoning requests and two final plats in county business session

Summary
The Franklin County Commission approved two rezoning applications (a 58‑acre tract north of Pomona and a multipart rezoning west of Princeton) and accepted final plats for 7 Cedars Estates and an Atchison‑area property; staff and the planning commission had recommended approval of each item.
Franklin County commissioners approved a slate of land‑use items during their Dec. 11 meeting: two rezoning applications and two final plats, all of which staff and the planning commission had recommended for approval.
Planning staff described rezoning case 24TID‑0022 as a request to reclassify a 58‑acre tract about five miles north of Pomona from A1 to A2 and to split it into two parcels of roughly 30 and 28 acres; both lots were described in staff comments as exempt from proof of water. The board moved and voted to approve that rezoning.
A second rezoning (2470014) covered multiple parcels near Princeton (addresses cited on Kentucky and Finney Ridge Terrace). The proposal reconfigured three tracts so the west parcel would be reduced to about 20 acres, the middle tract would remain A1 for farming and would not receive utilities, and the east parcel would expand into A2; staff noted an existing nonconforming frontage condition on the east parcel and recommended approval. The board approved the rezoning following a presentation and questions about access and utility availability.
The board also accepted the dedication for the final plat of 7 Cedars Estates (commonly referenced as 2019 Jackson Road, about 3.5 miles southwest of Ottawa) and approved the Atchison plat (2668 Woodson Road, about six miles north of Ottawa at the Woodson County line). Staff said both plats had required water service identified (Rural Water 4 for 7 Cedars; Rural Water 5 for the Atchison site) and that entrances had been approved by public works. Each plat acceptance passed on a motion and roll‑call vote.
Planning staff said they will continue to update the board as recordable documents and site work are finalized.
