Fiber project reaches live status for parts of Simi Valley; contractors report continued rollout

Company representatives gave a status update on Simi Valley’s open-access fiber deployment. Kirk Heidinger of Syfy Networks said the network reached live status and has 3,225 confirmed preorders. He reported approximately 2.6 million feet of infrastructure installed, representing about 71% of the total planned city footage, and described a planned push in January 2025 to complete several railroad crossings that would enable service to roughly 5,000 additional addresses.
Jared Hill, director of operations for contractor Aspire Communications, said his crew had closed out six work zones, completed more than 800,000 linear feet of microtrenching, and brought new customers online. Company representatives said two Internet service providers — Flume and GigabitNow — are currently active on the network and that additional addresses will be served once rail-crossing permits and crossings are completed.
Councilmembers thanked the presenters and indicated they would invite a fuller update at a future meeting to provide more details to residents about deployment schedule and coverage. Representatives said they would be available after the meeting to answer questions.
