Bath County board approves cheer funding, construction change order, calendar and routine consent items

Funding for cheerleaders: Board member John moved and Eric seconded a motion to provide $2,000 to the cheerleading squad to help cover travel costs to the UCA nationals in Florida. The chair called the vote and announced the motion carried.
Construction change order: Rees and district project staff reviewed a revised change-order price for PR 23 on the LaVec BG 22-5 20 contract. The contractor reduced the earlier figure (previously reported at about $4,025) to $2,530. A board member moved to approve PR 23; the motion was seconded and the chair announced the motion carried.
Consent and calendar actions: The board approved routine consent items (November minutes, the November financial statement, claims, travel, facilities use and memoranda of understanding with University of the Cumberlands and MSU nursing programs for the 2024–25 school year). The board also approved the calendar committee membership and adopted calendar choice B (first reading) after staff reported 69% preference for that option in district feedback; the difference between choices centers on whether to take certain election days as student/teacher days.
Construction update: Project representative Pax Walker reported the LaVec project is in closeout with punch-list items remaining and said the high school renovation is roughly 80% complete. He said Phase 9 (the gym) is a larger remaining phase, with work anticipated to begin in March and substantial completion expected by May–July, barring unforeseen conditions.
What this means: The approvals were procedural or limited in scope (funding for a student trip, a single contract change order, committee membership and a first reading of the calendar). The board did not take a final vote on the broader facilities financing strategy discussed elsewhere on the agenda.
