The Muhlenberg County Board of Education voted to approve the district'025-26 school calendar during its November meeting, adopting a variable calendar that provides 164 instructional days.
Board members and calendar committee representatives said the committee included certified and classified staff, community members, bus garage and technology staff, parents and school administrators. The calendar begins student instruction on Aug. 27, includes two staff work/professional-development days (one in February and one in March), and schedules fall and spring breaks (the week that includes Oct. 6 and Apr. 6 respectively). The calendar preserves two full weeks for Christmas break, which committee members said families had requested.
Board discussion noted one scheduling issue related to secondary CTE classes and seat-time requirements. Staff and a district representative (Mr. Locke) said the block schedule at the high school complicates semester timing for certain CTE/seat-time classes; the district said they have researched alternatives but concluded the proposed calendar remains the best option for now.
A motion to approve the proposed calendar was made, seconded and carried by voice vote with no recorded opposition. The board chair said staff will continue to work with high-school administrators on any needed adjustments to accommodate CTE requirements.
The approval finalizes the dates the district will use for planning instruction and facilities work next summer; staff noted construction needs that informed the committee
ecision to keep a variable calendar.
