The Sweet Home School District recognized six students for academic achievement and positive attitudes as part of the SB SPARK awards; recipients received certificates and will be entered in an end-of-year prize drawing.
The Sweet Home School District board opened its meeting by recognizing students selected for this year’s SB SPARK awards, a program the board described as honoring “exceptional student performance.” Unidentified board speakers explained the award recognizes students for strong academics, a positive attitude, respect for staff and peers, and courage in refusing to tolerate bullying.
Students named for recognition were Grace Gardner and Dating Lawrence from the high school; Sawyer Anderson from junior high; Ryan (Foster); Henry Harris; and Carson McKay (church school). Each student received a certificate and an opportunity to meet a board member; the board also said recipients’ names will be entered into an end-of-year drawing for a device such as an iPad or Chromebook.
“SB stands for exceptional student performance this year,” an opening speaker told the meeting, describing the award’s purpose and ceremony logistics. The board invited families to remain for photos and noted the event would not keep students from their evening routines.
The recognition segment concluded quickly so the board could proceed with regular business, and members thanked district staff and volunteers who helped organize the awards.
