Modesto City Council certifies Nov. 5 election results and administers oaths to reelected officials

The Modesto City Council on Dec. 10 unanimously adopted a resolution confirming the canvass of returns from the Nov. 5, 2024, municipal election and entered the results into the official record. City Clerk Diane Nayar Es Perez read the statement of vote into the record, listing winners and precinct totals.
"I, Diane Nayar Es Perez, city clerk for the City of Modesto, do hereby certify that I cause the Stanislaus County Clerk Recorder and Registrar of Voters to publicly canvass the returns…" the clerk said while reading the certificate of canvass. The clerk reported vote totals for key races, including District 1 (Rosa Escutia Brayton) and District 6 (David Wright).
Following certification, the city clerk administered the oath of office to reelected Modesto City Council members Rosa Escutia Brayton, Chris Rickey and David Wright and to Modesto City Schools board members John Irvin III, Evo Maestas and Romero Mejia.
Council Member Rosa Escutia Brayton and others offered brief remarks after being sworn in, thanking supporters and outlining priorities including public safety and economic growth. The resolution confirming the canvass was moved by Council Member Escutia Brayton, seconded by Council Member Williams and carried on a unanimous roll call vote.
The council did not receive public comment on the certification item. The meeting proceeded to other business after the oaths were administered.
