Glendale commission approves multiple class specifications, reviews recruitment and moves to closed session

The City of Glendale Civil Service Commission on Feb. 12 approved several new and revised class specifications, received routine HR reports and reorganized leadership before moving into closed session on reinstatement matters.
Early in the meeting commissioners approved the Jan. 15 minutes and heard a recruitment and examination status update from HR. Ms. Adams told the commission HR currently has 57 open recruitments and reported 11 eligible lists established since the last meeting.
The commission approved several newly established class‑specification series that had been approved by City Council on Jan. 21: a Parking Meter Technician series (duties include coin collection, diagnostics and repairs), a Traffic Maintenance Technician series (sign installation, street markings and painting), and a Network Engineer series (planning and troubleshooting wired and wireless networks). Assistant Director of Public Works Dan Hargrove and HR analysts described the duties and confirmed existing employees generally meet minimum qualifications; HR confirmed Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) analyses were completed for the classifications.
The commission also completed a reorganization of its leadership on the record, taking nominations and recording roll‑call votes to select officers for the coming term.
At the end of the open session the commission announced it would go off camera and enter closed session to consider reinstatement items for two police officers; the closed‑session item was read into the record and nonparticipants were asked to leave.
Next steps: HR to post and recruit for the approved bulletins per the posted schedule; the commission asked HR to follow up on any classification language clarifications as requested during debate earlier in the meeting.
