County employees donate $3,134.70 to Project Topeka; treasurer says funds stay local

At the start of the Dec. 12 Shawnee County commission meeting, Amanda Monholland, public information officer for the commission office, presented a $3,134.70 check to Project Topeka to close out the year’s employee fundraising.
Monholland said the total included proceeds from a courthouse biscuits‑and‑gravy event hosted by the treasurer’s office, $180 in apparel sales and a departmental lunch fundraiser that sold burritos and fish sandwiches, plus an online auction. She introduced Project Topeka representatives Mary Anne and Dan McPherron, who accepted the check.
"Project Topeka, we've been around since 1986," Dan McPherron, treasurer for Project Topeka, said. He told commissioners that county employees are among the organization’s biggest supporters and emphasized that the group is all‑volunteer so donations direct to local agencies and food banks rather than administrative overhead. "The money that goes to us stays here...it goes to local agencies, helps local food banks," he said.
Chair Kevin Cook and commissioners thanked volunteers and staff for participating in the county’s charitable fundraising program.
