During administrative communications at the Dec. 5 meeting, Shawnee County Treasurer (speaking in the transcript as county treasurer) said property tax statements were mailed last week and urged residents to contact the office if they had not received a statement. She explained the mailing and due-date timing are set by statute and by the county budgeting and certification schedule.
Commissioners thanked the clerk’s office for resolving earlier printing and software issues that affected statement amounts. The treasurer said when statements were delayed or misprinted in other jurisdictions earlier this year, some counties mailed incorrect amounts, underscoring the importance of the clerk’s follow-up.
John Landon, director of the weed department, said county sprayers have been winterized but chemical supplies remain available Monday–Friday and that herbicide (2,4-D) prices are expected to increase next year. Landon also said the department cleared FAA requirements for its drone program and has submitted applications to the Kansas Department of Agriculture; he said the program could be operational in April if approvals proceed.
