Shawnee County commissioners voted unanimously on Dec. 5 to award a five-year ballistic-vest contract to Angel Armor and to place initial orders for 2025.
Sheriff’s Office staff said the procurement followed an RFP and that Angel Armor best met the department’s needs and was favored in deputies’ feedback. The office requested the board formally approve the five-year contract because it extends beyond the current sheriff’s term. Staff explained vests typically expire within five years and that replacement schedules and quantities would determine annual purchasing needs.
The total cost for the initial purchases was listed as $68,017.73 and will be paid from the 2025 sheriff’s budget. Commissioners approved the contract 3 to 0.
The approval allows the sheriff’s office to begin ordering vests and managing replacements according to department needs and budgets.
