Linn County commissioners approve $275,289.92 in claims, award tire bid and OK equipment and facility contracts

The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and an invocation before the board quickly approved last week's minutes and claims totaling $275,289.92. Commissioners then heard a staff recommendation to award a Goodyear Commercial bid for 90 tires at $51,843.58 after a second bid arrived five days late; staff advised against opening the late submission under statutory bid rules, and the commission approved the Goodyear award by voice vote.
Public works staff described a D6 dozer that requires repairs after the equalizer bar and related components showed wear. Commissioners authorized sending the machine to Foley for repairs with a motion limiting the contract to $23,682.99. Staff also reported a higher engineering estimate for some issues (an upper repair estimate of roughly $37,682.99 was discussed), and commissioners weighed rental versus repair options before approving the capped repair authorization.
The commission accepted heating and cooling proposals from Weber Heating & Cooling for two county buildings: the annex (estimate $9,500) and the 4-H building (estimate $9,250). Commissioners also discussed roofing work on several county facilities and the need for a comprehensive plan for the old courthouse.
Other items approved included a last-minute burial/bore permit for Linn County Rural Water 3 (permit BP202412) contingent on contractor paperwork and payment, and a zoning change (case Z24-05) to allow a lot split for a property in Centerville; planning and zoning recommended the rezoning and commissioners passed resolution 2024-36 to approve it.
The board also voted to allow the City of Parker to park a police vehicle in the Parker fire station when officers are not on duty, provided the city accepts liability for the vehicle. Commissioners set county office hours for Christmas Eve to close at noon and then adjourned after routine remarks.
