Commission reduces landfill hours, approves road payments and broadband support

Neosho County commissioners on Dec. 17 approved a range of operational and capital items, from changing landfill hours to signing off on road project payments and supporting a broadband grant application.
The board approved a proposed reduction in landfill hours to Tuesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., plus the first and third Saturdays each month from 8 a.m. to noon, with flexibility to add hours for cleanup weeks or special needs. The change was slated to take effect in early January with public notice to be published.
Road and bridge staff presented payment estimates for ongoing projects. Commissioners approved a $407,718.20 pay estimate for the Galesburg overlay and a $207,244.96 pay estimate for the Grady/205th project, and approved a $102,406.32 payment related to bridge engineering work tied to a KDOT project number. The board also accepted salvage beams recovered from an old river bridge and approved the associated $6,237.50 invoice.
Earlier in the meeting the board voted to provide a letter of support for Pinnacle Broadband’s application under the Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment program to extend broadband into the northeast part of the county.
The commission also approved annual membership in the National Association of Counties (NACo) for 2025 ($450) and completed other departmental reports and routine business.
Staff were instructed to publish changes to landfill hours, finalize pay applications and provide documentation of project fund sources.
