Ellis County accepts $4,831.87 K Camp risk-management award to fund staff training

Ellis County commissioners accepted a $4,831.87 risk-management award from K Camp during their regular meeting.
Patrick Smith, introduced himself as the new risk manager at K Camp and presented the check, saying the award recognizes counties that “take the steps to reduce a lot of the property losses and the, property losses and other things that help you receive this reward.”
County Administrator Darren Myers said the county plans to apply the reimbursement toward the UKG learning-management platform used for employee training, from safety and defensive driving to HR and software skills. “The plan for that reimbursement … is to help assist pay with our learning management tool that we have with UKG,” Myers said.
Myers described K Camp’s two-tier structure and the program requirements that counties must meet to qualify for awards, including periodic driver training, documented safety inspections, quarterly safety meetings, and annual governance training for elected officials. He said the program’s rules can be strict: if a required component is missed, a county may be ineligible for a higher tier or additional premium discounts.
The commissioners did not take formal action beyond accepting the presentation; Myers said staff will continue implementing training and compliance measures so the county remains eligible for future awards.
The commission moved on to other agenda items after the presentation.
