Ellis County commissioners approved the county's 2025 health, dental and vision insurance renewals on Oct. 1 after a presentation from County Administrator Darren Myers and the wage and benefits committee.
Myers said Blue Cross Blue Shield submitted renewal rates that lowered the umbrella policy by about 1.27% and that the county received a competitive dental quote from Blue Cross that would replace Delta Dental. The wage and benefits committee recommended modest employee premium increases — roughly $5 per month for single plans and $10 per month for family plans — with the county's share of any budgetary savings routed to the employee health reserve fund. The committee also recommended retaining MASA air and ground transport coverage at no increase.
Myers explained the county's employee health reserve has declined from a peak of roughly $1.12 million to about $1.04 million, and the small premium adjustments plus plan savings are intended to stabilize reserves and support planned cost‑of‑living adjustments. The commission approved the renewals and authorized the county administrator to sign the renewal documents. Commissioners also consented to raising retiree premium rates to align with current employee rates.
