The Ellis County Commission approved a short-term contract to hire retired health administrator Carrie McHugh as a part-time, temporary health administrator while the county completes its search for a permanent director.
County staff said the health-administrator recruitment produced 18 applications and that McHugh, who previously served as the county—s health administrator and EMS director, agreed to return part time to help stabilize the department during the transition. McHugh was not present at the meeting but staff said he would begin next week and would be available for updates and reports. Staff described McHugh as having retained paramedic licensure, participating in continuing education, and doing contractual work for state public-health efforts.
Commissioners approved the contract and directed staff to schedule an update from McHugh after he has worked with staff for a short period (an update was suggested for an Oct. 8 meeting). Commissioners said they appreciated having an experienced interim leader to help keep operations steady during hiring and onboarding of a permanent administrator.
The motion to approve McHugh—s contract passed by voice vote.
