The Hermiston SD 8 school board voted on several Oregon School Boards Association items and passed all motions before it, including two candidate endorsements and three bylaws and dues resolutions.
Sami moved and Chris seconded a motion to vote for Luhui (variously spelled in the record as Lohooie/Louhi/Luhui) White Bear for OSBA Board of Directors, position 10; the board voted aye (Chris, Bernie, Sami, Lou and the Chair) and the motion passed. Lou moved and Chris seconded a motion to vote for Soren Rounds for OSBA Legislative Policy Committee position 10; the board voted unanimously to support that candidate.
The board then considered three OSBA resolutions. Lou moved to adopt Resolution 1 to amend the OSBA dues schedule; Sami noted the dues schedule had not been changed since 1998 and argued the amendment would sustain OSBA services and training. The board voted to adopt Resolution 1 unanimously. Chris moved to adopt Resolution 2 to create an OSBA Pride caucus seat on the OSBA Board of Directors and Legislative Policy Committee; Sami described work by advisory committees and supported the caucus as a resource for members and students; the board adopted Resolution 2 unanimously. Sami moved to adopt Resolution 3 to amend the OSBA 2023 bylaws with multiple governance changes; the board voted unanimously to adopt the changes.
The board also approved consolidated action items, which included budget committee appointments; district staff reported the district had four appointments and that, for the first time in a while, there were more applicants than spots. The board approved consolidated action by motion (moved by Sami, seconded by Lou) and the vote passed unanimously.
The motions and outcomes are recorded as submitted by the board secretary for OSBA submission.
