Marshall Jenkins announced the results of the districtwide food drive, saying the west side collected 2,842 pounds and the east side collected 2,120 pounds for distribution to the senior center and Helping Hands food pantry.
Jenkins described the senior-center operation as a shopping-style pantry that provides produce, meat and deli items and serves more than 100 families each week; during the cold months the program provides prepared food boxes to reduce time waiting outdoors. He said the program is available to any Franklin County resident 18 or older and is held Fridays from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Board members and staff highlighted the program’s role in supporting families and seniors, and encouraged community referrals to the pantry and partner services.
No formal board action was recorded beyond the announcement and presentation of the traveling trophy to the winning side of the food-drive competition.
