Camden County Board approves custodial contract, JROTC overnight field trip and enters closed session

The Camden County Board of Education approved a set of routine items before hearing construction proposals on Aug. 29.

Board Chair opened the meeting and the board approved the published agenda by voice vote. Dr. Ratliff presented a custodial-services RFP outcome, recommending D.M. Burr Facilities Management to take over the district’s custodial contract. Ratliff said the "cost of this contract is slightly less than what we're currently paying," but cautioned that "there are a few fluid charges that will likely bring the total contract to roughly the same as what we currently have." The board moved to approve the superintendent’s recommendation, the motion was seconded, and the board voted to approve the custodial contract in open session.

Dr. Ratliff also presented an overnight field trip request from Master Chief Dupree for the high school JROTC to attend an air rifle competition in Warrington, Virginia. The board moved, seconded and approved the field trip request.

After approving these items the board turned to the construction manager-at-risk presentations and, at the end of the public presentations, the chair announced the board would enter closed session to consult with county partners and deliberate. The chair said the board did not expect to return to open session to make an announcement or decision and indicated a special meeting would likely be scheduled soon.

Next steps: The board entered closed session to deliberate and consult county partners; the public will be informed of any decision at a later meeting.
