Camden County Schools presents improvement updates; board accepts resignation of a member

Administrators briefed the board on school improvement targets and district initiatives during the Nov. 14 meeting, and the board accepted a resignation from one of its members.
Elementary and intermediate updates (presented by Emma Dupree) included recent student activities, a planned Santa shop and STEM night, and recognition of staff including an elementary teacher selected to represent the district at a math conference. Camden Middle School and Camden High provided school improvement goals, with the middle school targeting increases from about 64% reading and 63% math proficiency to 70% through MTSS interventions and targeted supports. The high school noted a concentrated vocabulary initiative beginning in January and plans for safety training at staff meetings.
Mike Reeves updated the board on the new high school construction schedule: the project is awaiting USDA Rural Development verification (up to 30 days), after which Heartland and architect Moseley will open a 30‑day bid window; the team expects to set a guaranteed maximum price in January and begin site work thereafter.
During announcements, the Chair tendered a resignation from the Camden County Board of Education effective that evening to serve as a Camden County commissioner. The board voted to accept the resignation and Dr. Ratliff said an application and announcement for appointment to the seat will be posted on the district website and social media.
