Local EMS awarded $173,000 from Patterson Family Foundation for ambulance equipment, training and mental-health fund

An unnamed county EMS representative told commissioners the Patterson Family Foundation has awarded the service roughly $173,000 to buy equipment and fund training and mental-health support.
The speaker said the grant covered a power-load scribe gurney for the new Bird City ambulance (about $65,000), a ZOLL monitor (about $46,000), an AmbuMan advanced simulation mannequin (about $13,000), a ZOLL AED3 trainer (roughly $800), eight ballistic helmets and supplies for stop-the-bleed training. The presenter also said she asked for and received $15,000 to start a mental-health fund for EMS, plus a $5,000 contingency and $5,000 for EMT-class meals and supplies.
"They awarded the entire thing," the EMS representative told the board, reporting the award had been transferred into the county treasurer fund. She said the equipment and training will be used for local EMT certification courses and suggested sharing training resources with the hospital; she also said the mental-health fund will have oversight and stipulations to focus help on job-related trauma.
Commissioners congratulated the EMS staffer; no opposed votes or contentious debate were recorded. Staff said additional purchase requests and routine procurement paperwork for equipment will be presented to the board as needed.
