At the Dec. 23 meeting, the Road and Bridge Superintendent briefed commissioners on routine operations and requested several routine approvals for 2025. The board unanimously approved an informal procurement approach to obtain rock from local quarries (Midstates Materials/Harshman, Apex Shears Division and Eagle Creek) for county use in 2025.
The superintendent also requested and received approval to close the county landfill on Saturday, July 5, 2025, and Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025 — the county’s traditional holiday closure schedule — with staff noting this is a normal practice.
Commissioners and staff discussed maintenance priorities: planned deeper patching and subgrade work on several locations of Angus Road, a planned scrub seal for North Street in Jacobs Creek next year, and remaining guardrail and finishing work along a six-mile stretch of Highway 50. The superintendent described the Angus Road fixes as a “band aid” to address safety concerns until full overlay work is possible next season.
The board treated these as routine operations; motions were approved by voice vote with funding to come from the road-related maintenance and special highway funds as applicable.
