South Columbia County Chamber reports staff growth, new promotions and event plans

Massey said Ashlyn Bowers was hired on April 1 as the chamber’s director of communications and that day-to-day responsibilities have been split so Massey can focus on outreach and membership growth. He described the 2024 awards banquet (March 23) as a success with "just under 300 guests" and 11 awards presented, and credited local businesses and organizations for donations and event support.
Massey outlined membership tiers including an individual membership level ($75 per year) and said the chamber’s newsletter reaches over 800 subscribers. He described marketing steps such as standardized banners along Highway 30 for Gold and Platinum members, more regular podcasts to highlight members, and discounts for higher-tiered members at large events.
During the discussion, City Manager Ben Bergner named the app "Open Rewards" when asked about a cash-back shopping app the chamber might explore. Massey and councilors also noted outreach to cities in Columbia County and encouraged council members to invite nonmembers to trial events.
No formal action was taken; council members thanked the chamber for its work and suggested ways to increase Scappoose business participation.
