Resident asks Scappoose council for $20,000 to fund three community events

During the public-comment portion of the Nov. 18 meeting, resident JJ Durad thanked volunteers, Mayor Joe Backus, Tyler Miller and police for support of community events this year. Durad said events went "extremely well," noted a campfire-storytelling booth and other successes, and told council organizers will ask the city for $20,000 to support three events next year (outdoor festival, Earth Day event and movies in the park). Durad also noted the Audubon Society (Bird Alliance of Oregon) put up a billboard directing people to Chapman Landing and said the group will return to host bird-watching outings.
Durad provided tentative dates: the outdoor festival on June 7, Earth Day events on the Saturday closest to April 22, and movies in the park on Fridays in August. Council thanked Durad and said staff would follow up on funding requests.
