Oroville honors retiring police chief Bill LeGron with resolution

Multiple council members praised LeGron’s mentorship and steady leadership. One councilmember recalled working through severe budget shortfalls with LeGron and credited him with helping stabilize city operations. A congressional staffer read recognitions from federal and state representatives noting LeGron’s years of service and awards.
LeGron addressed the council and community, thanking staff and elected leaders and urging trust in his recommended successor. "I've had my season. I've had my time," he told the council, reflecting on the need for change and transition. He also acknowledged specific staff and partners by name and expressed confidence that the department and city leadership will move forward.
The resolution was passed and adopted in December 2024 and signed by Mayor David Pittman. The council’s action included a ceremonial presentation and several public tributes; no formal policy changes or personnel actions beyond the recognition were taken during the presentation segment.
The council moved on to regular business after the presentation; LeGron’s official retirement date was noted in the presentation material as Dec. 31, 2024.
