City staff and council members said the UDO is intended to replace the existing ordinance (O13 20 12 and related amendments) and streamline zoning and subdivision procedures under KRS chapter 100. "This is not something that is cement in stone and can't be adjusted," Speaker 7 said, adding that the document will be revised over time as issues arise.
Speaker 8 urged council to provide a clear procedure for how individual councilmembers can flag items for change after adoption; Speaker 5 (city staff) said staff will maintain a running list of issues, meet with council members as needed and return recommended amendments. "I'll keep a running list to keep you guys informed of those," Speaker 5 said.
Supporters noted broad community involvement in drafting the UDO and thanked staff and outside consultants. Council then conducted a roll-call vote; multiple members responded "Aye" and the ordinance was approved on its second reading.
The ordinance text, as read into the record, states it repeals the official zoning ordinance of the City of Fort Thomas and adopts new zoning and subdivision regulations pursuant to KRS chapter 100. Following adoption, staff will collect feedback from council and the public and propose adjustments as warranted.
