Resident presses Fort Thomas for action on persistent drainage and asks about rental notification

The resident said a "big hole" and recurring runoff form ice in front of his house and that state inspectors had recently left business cards at the property. City staff replied they had investigated, found an active natural spring beneath the house that flows into a sump pump and then into the street, and do not currently believe it is sewer water. Staff said they have been investigating potential remedies and that the street is not scheduled for repaving this year.
The resident also asked whether the city can require notification when a home becomes a rental, saying, “How come the neighborhood doesn't get notified when a house goes rental?” Staff and council members responded that they are not aware of a law requiring neighborhood notification for rentals and that local authority is limited; background checks and tenant vetting are not part of city permitting.
Council committed to continue investigating the drainage problem and follow up with the resident, noting outreach to state agencies and possible future street or stormwater repairs as part of longer-term capital plans.
The resident called on leadership to do more and urged the council not to let the issue "fall through the cracks." City staff said they will continue work and follow up when more information is available.
