Coos Bay certifies November results; newly elected officials sworn in

City staff recorded certified November results (7,817 ballots cast). Joe Benetti was certified mayor; four councilors were certified and sworn in. Council also selected Lucinda De Novo as council president by unanimous vote.
Coos Bay officials on Tuesday read and recorded the certified results of the November election and administered oaths to newly elected and re-elected officials.
City staff told the council that 7,817 ballots were cast out of 11,469 registered voters. Total votes for mayor were 4,666; Joe Benetti received 4,302 votes and write-ins totaled 364. For the four council seats, the combined total was 15,938 votes, with Stephanie Kilmer receiving 3,694; Lucinda De Novo 3,387; Troy Cribbins 3,108; Jacob Niebergall 2,809; and Scott Frasier 2,702.
After the results were recorded, the council held a combined oath-of-office for Mayor Joe Benetti and councilors Cribbins, De Novo, Kilmer and Niebergall. Councilors then elected Lucinda De Novo unanimously to serve as council president in a ballot conducted during the meeting.
The council did not take additional action tied to the election results; the certified tallies and sworn oaths complete the city’s administrative process for the November vote.
